Gain an understanding of the law and feel more confident to make informed decisions around employing people with convictions in NI.

NIACRO has over 50 years’ experience supporting people with convictions, and we know that securing employment or employment-related training significantly helps to reduce reoffending and build positive futures. We also know that employers are often concerned about employing people with convictions. So, we have developed this training to help employers understand the law and feel more confident to make informed decisions when deciding whether to employ people with convictions. It has been designed and is delivered by experts with acute front-end experience of supporting people with convictions and advising and training employers across all industry sectors.


This 2-hour course is designed to assist employers to develop safe, fair and consistent recruitment practices and to develop a better understanding of what having a conviction means when it comes to employment. It will help them to ensure compliance with legislative requirements, assess risks and dispel myths pertaining to people with convictions.


Specifically, participants will learn;

  1. The difference between a conviction and a criminal record
  2. When to apply different types of AccessNI checks and how to interpret the information disclosed
  3. Rehabilitation periods for different types of convictions
  4. Best practice recruitment to support people with convictions into employment

The training is also available online, in person for groups/staff teams and can be delivered in NIACRO premises or in your own venue upon request.

The training costs £80 per person (cost includes CPD Certification)
